On the Wall at Joeyg’s Through July

On the Wall at Joeyg’s Through July
July 19, 2012 Visit Madison

Paintings by the prolific, retired art teacher Lou Knoble. Lou is showing eleven new paintings and two abstracts that were deemed “unsuitable” for display in Madison 45 years ago when he came to town. These “unsuitable” paintings are not inappropriate in any way. They are just abstract.

I really like Lou’s work, and always look forward to his exhibitions. His paintings are abstract, usually with bright bold colors and recognizable subjects. I have yet to be disappointed with any of his shows, and this offering is no different. Patty Wells (curator of art on the wall at Joeyg’s) called him “Madison’s Inimitable Lou Knoble.,” I agree.

Lou is often recognized for his diamond or checked patterns that he works into many of his paintings. You may recognize this style from last year’s Chautauqua poster, which Lou did. It was the first abstract piece I have seen for the Chautauqua poster.

So if you want to see some really unique paintings that might get you thinking outside the box. Stop in Joeyg’s sometime this month and take a good long look at the walls. (July 2012)
