The truth is, I am already thinking ahead to the holidays. Retailers know all too well that we’re ready now to shift into Christmas mode. Like many women, I am the gift-buyer-in-chief for our household. I’ve found that the holiday season goes much smoother if I start thinking about Christmas gift selections early.
What gifts will be the most treasured? Can I find something truly unique? How early do I need to ship to far-away family members? Can I get my shopping done early enough to have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday myself?
Yes, I want to get started. There are certain gifts that I need to have ready when the family gathers for Thanksgiving – less than three weeks away.
That’s why I’ll be on the streets, shopping bag in hand, when Madison’s downtown merchants hold their annual Christmas Open House on Friday, Nov. 9.
It’s time for the Christmas magic to return to Madison.
Madison’s retailers know that more of us will be “shopping small” and “buying local”
this year. It’s what keeps small towns sustainable. They know that many buyers are looking for a more relaxing and enjoyable experience. A gift purchased in Madison could come complete with a story about the memorable store in which it was found, or the charismatic shop owner who helped locate it.
Many Madison retailers even provide free gift wrap or gift bags that look great under the tree.
I always enjoy the twinkle lights, the refreshments and the festive atmosphere at the Christmas Open House. The best part is greeting old friends along the way and sharing my “finds” with them.
